chronicle is secernate through objects as much as words and documents . Few objects carry more aroused heft than the toy we played with as kids . This series of photographs byAndy Brownelegantly show us iconic playthings from the last 140 years .
The toys date from the 1870s to the 2000s . They were borrowed from various collections in the UK and shoot by Brown as acommission to decorate the paries of the Sheffield Children ’s Hospital .
What I wish about Brown ’s photos is that each plaything sits completely devoid of context , honoring the bare makeup of the aim , and appropriate each person ’s own affiliation and memories to ooze in . And the fact that they are hang in a children ’s infirmary , where so much human drama is being played out , put up an interesting contrast to the deadpan nature of the oeuvre .
