Gothic Cathedral
My wife and I were hiking around the JV Fitzgerald Marine Reserve north of Half Moon Bay . At the top of a little hill above the tide pools is a clump of tree arranged in orderly , uniform run-in . As I was walk through , I caught an slant that reminded me of the architecture of an former Gothic duomo . The subdivision from the row of trees on the left seemed to adulterate across to the trees on the opposing wrangle . It was a stuporous break of day , so the dumb colour made for a stark B&W opportunity . look at on 12 December 2024 at JV Fitzgerald Marine Reserve , Moss Beach , CA . canyon EOS Rebel T3i body , Canon EF - S 18 - 55 mm IS II lens system 18 mm , ISO 200 , f/10 , 1/60 shutter , no fanfare , AWB , Shot in RAW , Edited in Aperture

Caged Path
I am eviscerate to radiation pattern and construction , and when I read the competition this week would be black-market & white , I recognise this bike itinerary running over the turnpike near Orlando would be my subject . I ’ve tantalise past it several times and recollect “ I have to shoot this someday ” . I headed out just at dawn armed with my tripod as I knew my shutter speeds would be pretty slow . Compositionally , I knew I did not require to film low but that I wanted to be up at around 6 feet or so to be in the center of the structure .
I then shot 3 exposures and combined them in photomatix to even out the exposure and land out more stain out of the ground and fencing . I then did extra cleanup ( adding contrast , straightening , and a footling sharpening in photoshop CS6 ) . Camera : Canon 50D , Lens : Canon 17 - 40 F/4L , Tripod : Induro AT-213 , Head : Manfrotto 498RC2 . preferences : f/8 centre halfway through the frame , ISO : 100 , Shutter : exposure at 1/50 , 1/13 and 0.3″

Vietnam Veterans Memorial
I take this photo at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall . It was rain down this afternoon when I pack this picture . Even in the decant rainfall , there were a few people at the Memorial paying their respects to their fallen family and friends . The rain on the rock wall and the paving reflected the trees on the Mall and contribute dividing line to the name on the moody stone wall . With the names of the precipitate in white against the dark rock wall , I think the Wall is represented well in black and snowy – particularly in the rain . I take this photo with a Nikon D90 using a Nikon 18 - 200 mm lens at 18 mm , f/5.6 , 1/60s shutter focal ratio and ISO 200 . An on - camera Nikon SB-700 flash was fired with TTL .

Dead Trees

The downhearted tree was being infest with ants- I took a bunch of shots of that , none of which really turn out . This film was postulate almost as an afterthought on my way out , an hr later . Sony SLT - A65V , ISO 100 , 17 mm , 1/2000 @ f/4.5

Yesteryear
My wife and I frequently visit Disneyland and on our mode to the car park we always devolve Ganahl Lumber . My married woman get laid to read their sign and the messages they put up each week . She suggested I take a photo of it for the Gizmodo Black and blank challenge . The sinister and whitened effect with this photo along with the message reminds me of the time value of past . We hold with what ’s written on the sign and hope others feel the same too ! television camera : Nikon d700 , Lens : 50 mm 1.4 , Exposure : 1/8000 sec , Aperture : f/16.0 , ISO Speed : 6400 ( for some texture effect )

The Giggles
My girlfriend needed new fountainhead shots quickly , so in a pinch ( I ’ve only been taking pictures relatively severely for 4 month ) we catch my tv camera , overall a fun experience . The steer picked up for about 15 seconds and I got 4 exposure of her hair function demented and her laughing uncontrollably . It was adorable , and those four pic make me smile . This was my deary . Should also mention this was consume outside our apartment complex , which has the thinnest walls in the world , our neighbors were probably so confused . Taken with Canon t2i , Canon 50 mm f/1.8 wide open at 1.8 . 1/1600 shutter , 100 ISO , no flash . First meter using my tripod .

Train in the Rain
My wife and I are leaving New York and moving to the South next month . We ’ve been trying to get to all of the things we keep meaning to do in the city before we go . We had spend Saturday in Brooklyn and Queens and were rushing from the jitney to pick up our Metro North train at Harlem 125th Street when it started to rain down . We were a trivial melancholy about our move after a enceinte day in the city and the rainwater added to the tactual sensation . When I check this train pulling away I thought it absolutely captured our situation and out climate . Camera : Canon T2i , Lens : Canon EF50 mm , Aperture : f1.8 . Shutter : 1/30 . ISO:800

Spiral
Every few daytime I take the air by this spiral staircase . I ’ve photographed it before , but there are so many color , lines , texture and some hideous orange duct tape that are just distracting when see together . I ’ve been tempt to go back at nighttime and remove the tape from the ground but would have a hard metre explaining that to security . When I heard of the Black and White challenge I cognize just where to go . Shot with a Canon 7D , Sigma 10 - 20 millimeter genus Lens , ISO 250 .

Montreal ’s recently redesign bus station . Because of the classical typeface , I decided to purpose for a noir - inspire looking . The flares around the headlight / streetlamps are a side effect of a long exposure at a really narrow aperture ( f/22 ) . D300 / Sigma 10 - 20 . 5″ @ f / 22 ( ISO 100 ) .
