movie noir . The sharp , stoic imagery is almost ego - parody , this overly masculine recompense for maudlin emotion . It ’s also just really creepy when someone photographs a baby this manner .
Winner – The Black Umbrella
It poured all day Sunday . In the evening , I get my mother to get out an old raincoat and umbrella that look appropriate to me , and we went for a walking to the park in the pouring pelting . A stroll in the deserted park in a cloudburst was amazingly enjoyable . I particularly like this jibe because it ’s passably promising , so the few things in the exposure – physical body , workbench , trees on either side of the path – show up as silhouette . The rain on the pavement made for some gracious reflections , too . This is one of the first successful scene I ’ve take using the manual configurations on my camera ( Sony DSC - H20 ) . Or possibly not so successful , since I ended up using iPhoto to adjust shadows , exposure , and counterpoint a vast amount . Many thanks to my mother for being a very cooperative exemplar .

Flour Car
I got so excited about this challenge . I ’ve been sort of basking in noir fabrication lately … L.A. Noire , sick Men ( well it may not be purely noir , but it ’s thematically standardized ) , and matter Chinatown and Blade Runner amongst my top 5 preferent movies . For this shoot , I was inspire by the L.A. Noire menu screen . Very coolheaded and evocative … Also , my brother , ( the modeling ) , get down a mountain of photographic attention at my wedding ceremony because he was sporting the rat pack look to a T … and our wedding was at Frank Sinatra ’s pad in Palm Springs . We set up the shoot in an alley where I live ( Redlands , Ca , USA ) . I parked my car at the end of the alley with the headlamp on . I had my chum throw handfuls of flour in front of the headlamp in an attempt to becharm the loose beams . It worked well in this shot because I was able to get a skilful shillouette of our model ( Ryan Luce ) . Of course the slight gentle wind get the flour all over my car , but hey art ’s evermore , right ? 😉

Adorable Horror Film Baby
Our south look window let in a lot of sunshine create mid - day naps sometimes difficult to reach , but it gives my daughter enough luminousness to stay mesmerized by her Mobile River , and just enough to provide a great noir view . Shot using a Canon EOS REBEL T2i , f/3.5 , 1/30 , ISO-100 , 18 mm .

Goodbye
I was n’t entirely trusted what would be appropriate , so I resolve to enlist a taxi , my girl and her son in which to say a tale and pick a fairly remote locating away from too many lights . The shooting took place for almost an hour doing various poses with the kiddo saying arrivederci . They were such great sportswoman . My out-and-out favorite ones was the flash photo version , but I recall this told the story in this music genre considerably . Sony A55 , F - stop 3.5 , 1/16th exposure , ISO 1600

The Shadow
My chum and I , whose name also happen to be Colin , heard about this challenge and right away attempt to come up with some melodic theme about what to do . We both adumbrate up some reasonably unique ideas and set about trying to achieve what we envisioned . My first mentation was to have a detective type bozo scrunch over a chalk outline of a body in a dark bowling alley , trying to match the pieces together of just what had happened . That pellet turn out pretty good and I was happy with it , but then my friend told me we had cap access code to his business . We scoped it out and I know I had to change up my programme . I wish the tension in the stroke and am curious about what ’s go to happen to our dear investigator . Many thanks to our friend Ryan who was a good sport about being directed by someone who seemed to fuck exactly what he wanted , and me . Canon Rebel T3i , f/8 , .8 second photo , ISO 6400 for that grainy look

Gas Station Hotel
Took this while I was on a thumb head trip with my acquaintance in South Korea ( which is where I ’m from ) . Not very motion picture noirish , I have sex . But I thought the lighting from the gas station in the back and the thick fog we had , and my Friend who fell asleep in the eye of nowhere , made an telling view .
It was around 3 o’clock in the morning when we were expend off at this servicing station . And it was so groggy at the time , nobody was driving out of the station , so we waited and waited until the haze died down . By the clip somebody finally pick us up , it was almost dawn . We were pin down in there for almost 3 hours . canyon EOS 7D , Canon EF - S 17 - 55 f/2.8 IS , ISO : 3200 , picture : 1/60 , f/2.8 , Focal Length : 17 millimeter

Smoke In the Rain
I shot this early this morning ( 8/15 ) just as my Quaker from out of town were deplumate out of my driveway to leave for the Nox . I was divvy up a cigarette with my protagonist when the rain and the car lights reminded me of your competition for this week so I had my booster hold his coffin nail out a little to his side and produce the shot off before the car turned down the road . I ’m a big fan of the second of smoke coming of the butt and I love picture show noir ( favorite= Maltese Falcon ) . As far as eyeglasses go : Canon 7D at 1/60 at 24 millimeter with a 24 - 70 f 2.8 at f/3.5 and ISO 800 . All I did was space it in greyscale and a canonical grain filter from photoshop .
