The Department of Justice said Monday that it had reached a liquidation with gaming giant Activision Blizzard over acomplaintaccusing the company of financially penalizing successful Overwatch and Call of obligation esports team . The DOJ alleged Activision ’s “ free-enterprise Balance Tax ” would have “ effectively operated as a salary tax and special competition . ” Activision says it never made a team pay the tax and that the league dropped the pecuniary measure from their contracts in 2021 . Activision defended the legality of its Competitive Balance Tax in a statement transport to Gizmodo , saying the measure was intended to raise contender , not harm it .
