Channing Tatum ’s career is on a definite upswing , but he still regrets being in G.I. Joe : Rise of the Cobra . That ’s not a huge surprise , give that his character , Duke , dies early in the 2d movie . But he still has some firm words about it .
Speaking with Howard Stern , Tatum says , “ Look , I ’ll be reliable . I fucking detest that movie . I detest that movie ! I was advertize into doing that movie , from Coach Carter . ” And with that , Tatum link the rank of other actors who are willing to talk about movies that are now punching bags . He and George Clooney should start a support grouping .
Tatum goes on to say that he had a three - picture show passel and it just seemed like a good idea at the time and , ultimately , he had no choice :
You ’re like , “ Oh my God , that sound amazing ! ’ I ’m doing that ! ” Options go from like $ 60,000 to like $ 80,000 to like $ 100,000 . I ’m like , “ Oh my God , that ’s so much money ! ” Even if I just get one other of those motion-picture show , I ’m dear . And he did it , even though he thought the script was bad . And that it did open some doors for him , but not to anything he wanted to do . fundamentally , the diverse number of picture show we see from him now — comedies , dramas , and action at law films — is what he want from his career . But all he get down from G.I. Joe was more of the same .
He did offer up a agency to fix it , after finding out that his function was supposed to go to , Mark Wahlberg , “ peradventure I should have done my Wahlberg belief for the whole film . The picture show might ’ve been skilful ! ”
Well , shady , at least . His turn in 21 Jump Street might have been less surprising if he ’d done that .
