The researchers found that while chimp shun the steadily strong beat common in Western literary genre , they like Indian ragas and Akan tunes from West Africa .
“ Our objective lens was not to bump a orientation for different cultures ’ music , ” subject co - writer Frans de Waal , a primatologist at Emory University in Atlanta , say in a statement .
