George Lucas has been adjudicate to open a museum to house his personal collection of artistic production and movie memorabilia for for a while now ; last June , Chicago beat out San Franciscofor hosting duties . Now , it seems a third urban center may in the running game : Los Angeles .
According to an LA Timesreport , “ complications ” are get in the way of the uber - forward-looking Lucas Museum of Narrative Art ’s contrive building on Chicago ’s lakefront . ( One beinga suit filed by an environmental grouping ; another being a “ No Thx ” right to vote from theChicago Tribune ; yet another being the factthe monolithic museum ’s design was somewhat controversial . ) If Chicago does n’t pan out , however , Lucas is prepared to take his “ dressing table museum ” to Los Angeles , whichpitched wooat him before he select the Windy City .
Says the LA Times story :

“ The vantage Los Angeles has is that it ’s on the USC campus and I do n’t have to go through all the rigamarole of years and days of trying to get past everything , ” Lucas said . “ That ’s an advantage because I do require to get it done in my lifespan . ”
Lucas turned 70 in May . But he has n’t given up on Chicago yet .
“ I have faith in Chicago and [ Mayor ] Rahm [ Emanuel ] , who is devote to making it happen , ” Lucas tell . “ But he ’s also coming up for election next month . ”

Lucas has been known to pull the plug on plans in the face of concerted resistance . He tried to work up a fully functioning studio apartment up in Marin County ’s Lucas Valley for year .
According to a Curbed theme , the design for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art ( show above ; check out a video recording featuring the designer , Ma Yansong , discussing it below ) comprises 400,000 satisfying foot ( room enough for four movie dramatics and a eatery ) , and will be an estimated 400 million of George Lucas ’ dollar .
