Looks like Google+ is pursue Twitter ’s lead on the whole “ Verified Account ” affair , letting you know for trusted if you have the real Kim Kardashian in your rope or not . But , consider theirstringent “ real names ” policy , what ’s the stop ?

The fresh feature give the connection ’s big names a “ verified user ” badge next to their name . But … why ? It just strikes me as redundant since no one could make a bastard account to begin with without being banned . And it ’s not even clear how a celebrity with a nom de guerre would go about get a visibility with their stage / playpen name .
CNNwrote last calendar month that celebs might have to air a copy of their driver ’s license to get the new badge . First , it does n’t calculate like Robin Wauters at TechCrunch did anything of the sort to get his new street credibility . Second , do you really conceive Mark Zuckerberg or Bono is sending a transcript of his ID to Google ? Now , it could also be PR folk and consultants working with Google to get the perquisite , which is credibly more likely .
But the reasoning ? My only guess is that this is a snap for popularity on Google ’s part . A larger , more obvious celebrity mien would bring more people in . And those same celebs could make Google+seem less like a wastelandto young user . If that ’s the pillow slip , then it ’s calculative on Google ’s part . Shallow , but calculative .
