After years of playing zombie - killers , retired gun for hire and even the King himself , Bruce Campbell ’s tardy motion picture offered him the chance to diddle something a niggling moment nearer to household : himself . But , as you might expect , that does n’t mean that My Name Is Bruce will be a smooth look at the previously unseen sensitive side of everyone ’s favorite Evil Dead headliner , because even Movie Bruce has to get his hands soiled fighting lusus naturae .
Campbell explained the premise behind the movie to Ai n’t It Cool :
It ’s for the fan . It ’s a cautionary tale of why you should never hire an actor to do anything other than act . Ultimately it ’s serve as a comedy premise , that ’s all . It ’s not to be my definitive statement on my life or career or devotee . It ’s a one off jape moving picture that hopefully people will be somewhat dun and confused and hopefully entertained … calculate , acting is a heightened variation of something . There ’s no such thing as a realistic histrion since it ’s all make consider . So for the purpose of the picture show , it ’s all about a broken down , failure , schmuck role player who has enormousness thrust upon him , and he mostly fails . The fact that he ’s Bruce Campbell is an extra weirdie bonus that will either aid or hurt .

My Name is Bruce is the larger-than-life battle of a small mining Ithiel Town ( Gold Lick , Oregon ) to rid itself of a vengeful monster . Guan - di ( Jamie Peck ) , the Chinese god of state of war and protector of the dead , has been unleash by burial ground desecrating teenagers to protect the graves of Formosan mineworker lost in a deadly cave - in of yesteryear .
The pernicious ogre ’s missionary post is to carry off all those who transgress against the grave ( relatives included ) , which is virtually the entire universe of Gold Lick . The inbred community has to find a solvent so Jeff ( Taylor Sharpe ) , the sole survivor of a mortal Guan - Di face-off , takes it upon himself to kidnap his idol , Bruce Campbell ( Bruce Campbell ) , maven of myriad B - movie horror films , and recruit him to be their local Saviour .
abase at first , Bruce finally go along with Jeff ’s prank , convert that it ’s all an elaborate birthday present from his agent ( Ted Raimi ) , and begins to enjoy the despoliation of being a moving-picture show hero , including complimentary liquor and Jeff ’s attractive female parent , Kelly ( Grace Thorsen ) .
But Jeff ’s scheme run short horribly haywire when his hero , experience more for fight managing director than mythical warrior , haphazardly leads the town in battle against Guan - Di . Confronted by a colossus that ’s not a guy in a rubber cause , and with the origin of inexperienced person on his hands , Bruce abandon the harsh reality of Gold Lick for the sanctity of his former , hokey life .
In his ramshackle desert trailer , Bruce resumes the daily pulverization of musical style sequels , hapless housework and cheap whisky , but a bowel - wrick call from his biggest rooter , Jeff – now forced to take on Guan - Di alone – prompts the thespian to re - evaluate his destiny .
Against his better opinion ( and the raging citizens of Gold Lick ) , Bruce returns to defeat Guan - Di , carry through Jeff , and snag his spicy mother . In the climactic , mano - a - lusus naturae , Bruce strain to lift above the miserable , off - projection screen schmuck that he is and become a hero … in veridical spirit .
Be afraid , Gold Lick – be very afraid .
