Whoopi Goldbergis paying tribute to the people who shaped her in a new book.The EGOT winner, 68, announced the forthcoming publication of her new memoir,Bits & Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me, exclusively with PEOPLE. The book, coming this spring from Blackstone Publishing, will tell the story of Goldberg’s life, career and family in her own words.“This book is dedicated to my mother and my brother and our time together as a small, funny little unit. It’s dedicated to anyone who’s found themselves on a scary path not of their choosing or dealing with loss," Goldberg says in an exclusive statement.

Goldberg will also touch upon an incident when her mother returned home from the hospital with no memory of her children — which was “the exact moment the trajectory of Goldberg’s life changed.” The book will serve as a way for the author to preserve the memories of her loved ones on the page.
